This free Urdu poetry quiz gives you 10 new questions every day. Guess which poet wrote a famous sher, find the meaning of an Urdu word, and fill in the missing word of a couplet. Everyone gets the same quiz on the same day, so you can compare your score with friends and family.
It takes about two minutes, and you learn something new about Urdu poetry with every question.
How the Daily Poetry Quiz Works
1. Tap Start Today's Quiz.
2. Answer 10 multiple-choice questions, one at a time.
3. After each answer you see whether it was right, with a short explanation.
4. At the end you get your score, and your streak goes up if you play daily.
A new quiz starts every day at midnight (Pakistan time). A countdown on the result screen shows when the next one starts.
Three Types of Questions
Identify the Poet
You see a famous sher and choose who wrote it. For example:
دلِ ناداں تجھے ہوا کیا ہے
آخر اس درد کی دوا کیا ہے
Dil-e-nadaan tujhe hua kya hai
Aakhir is dard ki dawa kya hai
— Mirza Ghalib
Explanation: The poet asks his innocent heart what has happened to it, and what cure there could be for its pain.
After you answer, you also get a link to read more poetry by that poet.
Word Meaning
You see an Urdu word, such as hijr (ہجر), and choose its correct English meaning, which here is "separation from the beloved". A link takes you to the word's full page in our Urdu dictionary.
Missing Word
One word of a famous sher is hidden, and you choose the word that completes it. For example:
کوئی امید بر نہیں آتی
کوئی ______ نظر نہیں آتی
— Mirza Ghalib
The missing word is صورت (soorat), meaning "way" or "hope", so the line reads: Koi soorat nazar nahi aati.
Explanation: The poet says that no hope is fulfilled and he can see no way out of his troubles.
